Every language can be complex. (Non-trival Bash scripting gets "fun" fast.) For me Node has fewer barriers to getting a running application than PHP. (and some common barriers). Of course, that largely depends on your tool chain, and your experience may be different than mine. So take my thoughts with a grain of salt.
